The correct footwear

Let your feet do the talking!

We all know how much fun dancing the night away in our beautiful, but often inappropriate, skycrapers can be. We also know the dreaded "morning after feet' feel! Aching and throbbing feet......and often the head too, just to balance things out on both ends!!!

Why on earth do we do this to ourselves? In the name of fashion, naturally!

When it comes to our exercise regime, it is also vital to wear the correct footwear! With so many colours, designs and choices, to suit almost every pocket, there should be no reason for you not to wear the appropriate footwear for your activity. It is also essential! Let me explain why.

Dancing requires the hips to move! If your feet grip the floor because of the treads on your shoe, the knee may be twisted. Even if no knee damage is sustained, you won't be able to move your hips as freely! Trainers are normally designed for specific activities. Running shoes have more grip to support you with different road surfaces. They are not ideal for aerobic activity such as Zumba and Fitsteps as they make the swivel action harder and could put strain on your ligaments. You don’t need to fork out a lot of money for special shoes but please ensure that your trainers are appropriate for the activity. This can avoid knee ache etc.

Nike, Zumba, Bloch and several other well-known brands have shoes with a ‘swivel-ball’ underneath. Ask me at your next class if you need more information.

You could alternatively invest in the following (pictures can be found in my recent newsletter) if you do not wish to buy new trainers.

Slip-On Dancers: I think this is a great little find. Slip-On Dancers fit on regular shoes in seconds, may help reduce the risk of twisting knee injuries, and allow your hips to move more freely. Slip-On Dancers are designed to smooth the offending treads that grip the floor on regular tennis shoes, allowing your feet to pivot as if you had on expensive dance shoes. I don’t personally sell them but you can buy them online. They come in 2 types, various colours and designs. Let me know if you require more information on these.

At Venia's Health Hub we often discuss contributing factors that can cause knee ache..

Knee pain can stem from various causes but there are several things we can do to prevent knee ache as well as suitable treatment options and practices.

Keep Dancing! ....and Smiling... with happy knees and joints!

Much love,
